History of the breed

The Cane Corso is a Mastiff-type breed that originated in Italy, having descended from Roman war dogs. After the Roman Empire fell, the Cane Corso worked as a farmhand, flock guardian, property guardian, family guardian and hunting dog (particularly of big and dangerous game like wild boar). Even more than a battle buddy, Cane Corso's were used to protect the home. As they moved out of the battlefield they could be seen as protectors in uncertain times. They were used to hunt, protect the family, and used on farms. These loyal, fuzzy friends would protect the home from wild animals or intruders with ill intentions.
